Tell Us About Their Struggles With Addiction:

Justin struggled for 12 years...his addiction started with a college injury and vicodin...it spiraled out of control from then. Justin was in and out of numerous rehabs in many states, so many I cannot even count. He never really had more than 6-12 months at a time of sobriety. He tried so many times and I know he wanted to be sober but this BEAST called heroin got the best of him.

I would have to say his cat.

What Do You Miss the Most About Them?

2015/09/15 - Mike Brennan - Age 32 yrs - Simi Valley, California

Submitted by: Megan Brennan - Sibling

Name: Mike Brennan
State:  California, 93065
Date of Passing: 09/15/2015
Date of Birth: 6/8/83
Age: 32

Tell Us About Them:

Mike, well when he was younger he has such a thirst for life. When he was younger he watched Top Gun and after he called the Navy trying to sign up at the age of 3. Later on he would actually join the navy and travel the world. He also wanted to become a musician, a writer and a poet, and he actually accomplished all his goals. When he wasn't using drugs he knew what he wanted out of life and went after it.

Tell Us About Their Struggles With Addiction:

My brother started using drugs around the age of 12, first it was weed, then Coke and speed, and then later it was heroin. I remember visiting him in rehab when I was only 11 and how scary the whole thing seemed to me. And when I was 18 I found out her got my 11 year old brother into heroin. I lost him a long time ago due to drugs. He had brief stints of sobriety through the years, but still continued on with alcohol during those times. There's so much about him I don't know and will never understand.

What Made Them Smile?

A witty joke, our family cat, and his guitars.

What Do You Miss the Most About Them?

His smile

If You Had a Chance to Say One More Thing to Your Angel What Would It Be?

I'm sorry I cut you the last two years of your life, but I had to walk away. You, our little brother and Dad were so sick with addiction I knew if I didn't leave there would be no hope for me. I'm sorry our last time together the police were involved and they wanted
me to have you arrested, but I still told them no even though you stole and sold all my possessions. I hate the way my last years of you are terrible years to remember, fueled with your drug and alcohol addiction. I hate that when I tried to reach out to you through your friend that you blew me off, because you knew I would know you were using again. I'm so sad I'll never get to tell you I love you again. And I'm so truly sad that little boy I grew up with, with the bright shining blues eyes is gone forever. I'll miss you forever, the real you, before the drugs. I love you Mike.

Steven was a beautiful young man with a loving and joyous personality! He did not discriminate against anyone... He had his whole life ahead of him. He was 6 months away from graduating college at Illinois State University on a scholarship from the state of Illinois to be a special education teacher when his addiction started. We found out at his wake from the superintendent of the high school he graduated from that he had his last interview and was already hired!!! He loved helping other people and always found the positive side of everything even if it was a bad situation. He touched so many lives and it showed ... There were over 2000 people at his wake!!!

We found out about Stevens addiction when he overdosed for the first time. It was at the neighborhood Burger King.. He went into convulsions and fell out of the booth.. People were stepping over him like he was a bumb!!! He was minutes away from loosening his life when the ambulance arrived. He went into a treatment center and I thought that's all it would take and that he would overcome it.. Bot was I ever wrong!!! When Steven came out he was sober one week and overdosed again in our bathroom!! He went on to battle his addiction for three years.. Through that time he went through countless treatment centers.. Halfway houses sober homes and a sober Christian home.. He overdosed many more times . Through it all though he never lost his faith in Jesus or God!!! He used to tell me "mama I want to stop but I can't!! It turned my beautiful loving intelligent son to someone we no longer knew!!!

What Made Them Smile?

Everything made him smile!!! He had a smile that lit up a room and his face from ear to ear!!! His brothers made him smile... His friends.... His girlfriend... Music sports... He always had a smile on his face.. Everyone misses that beautiful smile!!!

I miss everything about him!! His laugh , his smell, his jokes, his goofy dancing, his contagious personality , his hugs, but most of all I just miss him!!!!!

If You Had a Chance to Say One More Thing to Your Angel What Would It Be?

If I had the chance to say one more thing to him it would be so so much!!! That I never stopped loving him, that Through everything I was still very proud of him and everything he accomplished in his short life and most of all that his death was not in vien!!! By sharing his story it has already saved 2 lives and hope by continuing to share his story it saves more!!! I will love him and miss him forever!!!

Tell Us About Them:

Joe was always caring and would've given the shirt off your back.

Tell Us About Their Struggles With Addiction:

He struggled with addiction since he was 13 he came from a family of alcoholics and drug addiction. He was in and out of jails since he was 16. He died in the system. He would always keep in touch with me whenever he got released from prison but this last time he called and confided in me that he has been using herion and was injecting it. I walked the same road as him and tried to help and once I mentioned helping him he avoided me. Its sad that his biological father died because of drugs and so did the man that raised him who he called dad. Nor to mention an uncle and many good friends. It just goes to show you that you can't be scared into recovery only when that person us ready will they finally surrender.

What Made Them Smile?

Building cars and riding motorcycles and his children and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Not to mention the many women he was with. Not saying this in a bad way but joe had 1 girl for every day of the week and 2 for the week end.

What Do You Miss the Most About Them?

His smile . how he could make you smile by acting silly. We grew up in the same house so we were more like brother and sister than cousins

Heroin Memorial - 2015/11/24 - John Watson - Age 29 yrs - Huntington, West Virginia

JohnWatson1

2015/11/24 - John Watson - Age 29 yrs - Huntington, West Virginia

Submitted by: Donna Donovan - Parent

Name: John Watson
State:  West Virginia, 25701
Date of Passing: 11/24/2015
Date of Birth: 02/17/1986
Age: 29

Tell Us About Them:

John truly was one of the most beautiful souls I had ever known...even being my son, I say this without bias. John was always looking out for others before himself, always one to help those in need. John struggled with depression and other issues from a very early age, having endured some horrible trials. John was an "old soul" from birth. The struggle with those inner demons could be seen played out in his eyes, even during his happiest moments. But he never lost his love for those in his life. When John Watson loved you, you knew it. he loved hard, and openly. He had a loyalty to those in his life I don't feel will ever be matched. Up to the hour before his death, he was reaching out and helping others in their struggles.

Tell Us About Their Struggles With Addiction:

After 9 good months clean, John relapsed and died. John would have been 30 this February. He was sold a batch of heroin laced with fentanyl and cocaine...died instantly. We battled this disease for 16 years. John had had clean time over the years under his belt...6 months here, a year there, but not until this last time had he actually taking recovery serious, actually worked a real program. No matter how many times I had played this scenario out in my head (11 years ago he died 3 times enroute to the hospital after an overdose of a cocktail and PCP, LSD, E, and various other drugs and laid in a coma for 3 weeks) nothing prepared me for the reality of him never coming back.

What Made Them Smile?

Being in the presence of his Tribe, dancing and drumming around Paw Paw at the placed he considered "home"..Wisteria, the love of his sister, Faith...his girlfriend, Katelynn..and her beautiful daughter he loved as his own, Kinley.

What Do You Miss the Most About Them?

His laughter. Oh gods, how I miss his laughter. And his hugs. His smile. His unending love that showed thru even the darkest of times in our lives. I miss coming home and finding my cupboards have been raided, lol...I miss those stinky socks he would leave around my house. I miss my son.

If You Had a Chance to Say One More Thing to Your Angel What Would It Be?

I don't really know that there is anything else I could say that I hadn't already. We told each other we loved each other hours before he died. What would I say? Don't. This time is the time...this time you WILL die. Please don't leave us...don't make this slip.

Kyle was a very forgiving young man, He was a friend to all! Everybody loved Kyle and he loved them back. He had so many friends, It really is so sad

Tell Us About Their Struggles With Addiction:

I did not know about it until he came to stay with me, First he started out oxycontin and naturally went to heroin, from what I have read. I had him live with me three times. Once when him and two friends were doing oxy's then twice with his girlfriend. I knew at that point what they were doing. State:  Nevada, 89108
Date of Passing: 8/28/2015
Date of Birth: 7/17/1993
Age: 22

Tell Us About Them:

Energetic, loved all family and friends unconditionally. He was loved to fish, camp, and absolutely loved to skateboard. He took care of the people he loved the most. Loved to play music with my father. He played electric guitar, his inspirations were Megadeath and Metallica.

Tell Us About Their Struggles With Addiction:

He started out with me meth and im not too entirely sure how he got addicted to heroin. He would keep me and my parents at a distance with this. He'd never come home high, so he would be gone for days and even months. He knew what he was doing was wrong and how it affected us, as a family and individually. He knew the changes he had to make but I feel like heroin took over his life. Finally the heroin destroyed a valve in his heart and had an abscess on his aorta valve. He had open heart surgery, recovered for the most part. He passed away four days after he got out of the long term care hospital. He passed away sober. No drugs in his system.

What Made Them Smile?

Joking with everyone. Spending time with family, his cousins and playing music.

What Do You Miss the Most About Them?

I miss hearing him greet me when we see each other. How happy he was to see me. Spending hours upon hours playing the newest Call of Duty games. Him eating my food and leaving me nothing. Because now our fridge is too full.

If You Had a Chance to Say One More Thing to Your Angel What Would It Be?
